The TOM CREAN calling in Lorient
11 May 2026
We once again had the pleasure of organizing both technical port calls of the oceanographic research vessel TOM CREAN in Lorient
Commissioned in 2022 and sailing under the Irish flag, this state-of-the-art vessel, chartered by Ifremer, can accommodate up to 26 people, including 14 scientists.
Versatile and high-performing, the TOM CREAN is a multi-mission vessel used by public organizations and universities for :
🔹 fisheries research (stock assessment)
🔹 oceanography and climate studies
🔹 seabed mapping
🔹 environmental monitoring
🔹 deployment of scientific equipment (buoys, sensors, ROVs, AUVs)
It is also recognized as one of the quietest research vessels in the world, ensuring high-quality observations.
The vessel pays tribute to Tom Crean, the renowned Irish explorer who took part in several major Antarctic expeditions in the early 20th century.
We would like to thank Blue Water Shipping for appointing us as port agent.
